iOS mobile app development will benefit from the upcoming iOS 18, which Apple has announced will be available as a free update starting Monday, September 16, for eligible iPhones. First unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this year, iOS 18 introduces a host of new features and improvements. Among these, Apple Intelligence—Apple’s suite of AI features—is the most highly anticipated. However, these AI features will not be included in the initial release
The initial rollout of Apple Intelligence features will come with the beta version of iOS 18.1 next month, with more features being introduced in the following months. While iOS 18 will support several older iPhone models, Apple Intelligence features will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. All models in the newly launched iPhone 16 series will also support these AI features. These features will be available on devices with Siri set to US English, with additional languages expected to be added over the next year. By the end of this year, Apple Intelligence will support localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. In 2024, the AI features will expand to include languages such as Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish.
iOS 18 will also bring several features tailored for users in India. Apple has confirmed enhancements related to communication, language input, and updates to the Move to iOS app. Indian users can now customize their lock screen time display with Indian numerals from 12 languages, including Arabic, Arabic Indic, Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Meitei, Odia, Ol Chiki, and Telugu. Additionally, iPhone users in India will gain access to Live Voicemail Transcription in Indian English.
Here’s what iOS 18 will offer to Indian users:
Home Screen: iOS 18 offers greater flexibility with mobile app development, allowing users to easily relocate apps and widgets. You can also customize colors and add new app icons specifically for dark mode, enhancing personalization.
Control Center: The updated Control Center features new controls accessible via a swipe-up gesture. These controls provide quick access to connected home devices and can now be accessed from the lock screen. The Action Button can also quickly bring up these settings.
App Lock: A highly requested feature, App Lock, has been introduced in iOS 18. This feature allows for locking individual apps and hiding them in a secure folder, adding an extra layer of privacy and security.
Messages: The Messages app receives updates, including support for RCS messaging, which expands compatibility with various messaging platforms. New features include emoji and sticker reactions, scheduled messages, text formatting, and integrated text effects. Satellite messaging support will also be available for iPhone 14 and later models, improving communication in remote areas.
Mail: The Mail app will become smarter with on-device categorization, sorting emails into categories like primary, transactions, updates, and promotions. This feature will be rolled out later this year.
Game Mode: iOS 18 brings the Mac’s Game Mode to iPhones, optimizing performance for a smoother gaming experience on mobile devices.
Photos: The Photos app will be redesigned to simplify accessing memories and organizing photos. Built-in intelligence will create photo collections automatically, enhancing user engagement.
Audio: iOS 18 introduces gesture support for Siri, allowing for hands-free interactions. Voice isolation for AirPods Pro will improve audio clarity, and personalized spatial audio will debut later this year, with Need for Speed Mobile being the first title to support this feature.
IOS 18 offers new features for mobile app developers that can enhance mobile app development. Whether you’re focused on iOS Mobile App Development or broader Mobile App Development, these updates promise to make app experiences more personalized and efficient.
