Meta buys Conductor: export Cloud work before Nov. 20 deletion
The local Mac app keeps working into early 2027, but the cloud service goes read-only in nine days and starts deleting data in 16. What Conductor Cloud held, how to get it out, and what to switch off afterwards.

Meta has acquired Conductor, the Mac app developers use to run several coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode) side by side. Axios reported the deal on November 4, and Conductor CEO Charlie Holtz confirmed it the same day. Financial terms were not disclosed. On X, TechCrunch reported, Holtz named the two people he will work with: Meta's chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, and Nat Friedman, who runs product at Meta's Superintelligence Labs. Meta confirmed the deal to TechCrunch but wouldn't comment further.
For teams that use Conductor, the shutdown dates matter more than the price. New sign-ups and downloads stopped on November 4. Conductor Cloud, the hosted version offered on Pro, Teams and Enterprise plans, goes read-only on November 13, and Conductor starts deleting Cloud user data on November 20, 16 days after the announcement. Active subscribers get refunds, and Pro features are free in the meantime. The local app keeps getting new models and critical fixes until early 2027, when Conductor says it will delete the rest of its user data.
Cloud is the part to check. Conductor's FAQ says chat messages from cloud workspaces sit on Conductor's servers, and its privacy notice says Cloud gives it access to code, logs and chat history. Each workspace runs in a Vercel sandbox in us-east-1, connected to GitHub, with users' own model subscriptions or API keys.
On Hacker News, one user, iamunr, wrote that their company was taking the refund and "moving the org to t3.codes instead." A founder of a competing product, dregitsky, cautioned that T3 does not host anything, so it is not a drop-in replacement for the cloud setup.
What IT teams should do
- Find out who in engineering has used Conductor Cloud, and have them run Transfer to local on each workspace (right-click the workspace) or use Settings, Account, Export data. Conductor says export still works after the November 13 read-only switch, and asks users to export before deletion starts on November 20.
- After export, rotate any model API keys that were entered into Conductor, and remove Conductor's access to your GitHub organization.
- Pick a replacement on your own criteria, hosted or self-run, rather than from the founders now pitching in the Hacker News thread.
