OpenAI puts GPT-6 into ChatGPT, with answers built from forms, charts and buttons

Paid plans get GPT-6 Sol and free users get GPT-6 Luna. For Enterprise workspaces, admin settings decide when staff see it.

OpenAI started rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT on October 7. The headline change is what OpenAI calls Intelligent UI: answers are no longer only text. The model can build a response from text, visuals and interactive elements such as forms, buttons, charts and small tools, which ChatGPT renders on screen as the model writes it.

OpenAI says ChatGPT has more than 1.2 billion weekly users.

Who gets which model

There are two versions, and the plan decides which one people get.

Plan Model Rollout
Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise GPT-6 Sol From October 7, in the Chat tab
Free and Go GPT-6 Luna From October 8

For Enterprise customers, OpenAI says availability depends on workplace admin settings. The models behind ChatGPT's Work and Codex features are unchanged in this release.

What OpenAI claims

All of the performance figures come from OpenAI's own internal testing:

  • GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. That measures time to the first part of the answer, not time to finish.
  • GPT-6 Extra High starts answering in about the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium and scores higher overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High on an internal test of everyday multi-step tasks.
  • On hard problems, GPT-6 dealt with the main point of the question more often than GPT-5.6.

OpenAI published no full benchmark tables with the announcement. It says safety testing and its handling of attempts to bypass safeguards are covered in the system card.

The announcement says nothing about API access or API pricing, so applications that call OpenAI's API are not affected by this rollout.

What it means for IT

Interactive answers change what staff can do inside ChatGPT. A chat that used to return a paragraph can now return a form to fill in or a calculator to use. That is useful, but it also means more work happens inside a chat window that your other systems don't see.

What IT teams should do

  1. If you run ChatGPT Enterprise, check the workspace admin settings that control GPT-6 access and decide when to switch it on.
  2. Tell staff that answers may now include forms and calculators, and that your rules on what data goes into ChatGPT have not changed.
  3. Treat the speed and quality figures as vendor claims until your own pilot users have tried it on real work.
  4. If your teams use Codex or Work features, note that their models did not change in this release.
